Fashion Friday: Overnight Flight

Overnight Flight
Since I'll be flying to England overnight next week, I thought I would round up some essentials for night-time flights. The thing is, you get on your flight at bed time, and arrive in the morning. So as much as you want to wear your pj's on the flight it's best to wear something that can be as comfy as pj's but looks cute enough to wear the next day.

I always make sure the shoes I'm wearing are easy to take on and off (for security, but mainly because I don't like wearing shoes on a flight) and that I have a scarf that can double as a blanket. Add in a big carry-on stashed with things to read and a pair of sunglasses to hide tired eyes, and you're all set.

Heart Love

I bet not many people have a favourite shape, but I do. It's the heart. It's been my favourite shape for as long as I can remember. Maybe it was those home made heart shaped valentines that I used to make with my babysitter. Whatever caused my love affair with hearts, there's no cure. If it has a heart on it, I want it.

Once, for Halloween at work, I jumped at the chance to dress as Valentine's day (we were all dressing up as the Statutory Holidays)...until I realized that it's not technically a Stat holiday. Darn it.

I put together a collection of love-ly heart themed items, just in time for Valentine's day! I would just love to snuggle up in one of those sweaters.

Pillows

Animal Lover

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

My friends are expecting a baby boy this March. They've done the most adorable nursery with an owl theme. The owl pillow above would be perfect for them! And what about the rest of these animal pillows? Wouldn't they be perfect for a baby's room? Actually, I think some of them would even be cute in a more adult room (I would have 1, 6, 7 and 9 in my house any day!) My personal favourite is the striped Daschund. Don't read too much into this - I just think they're cute.

Fashion Friday

You know what I've been into lately? Big earrings. But not like big hoops, or long dangley ones, just big studs.
Grannie-chic

I'm calling them Grandma's earrings (because mine would have definitely worn them). The ones at the top, with the faces are my favourite.

What do you think? Too old-lady?

Fashion Friday: Holiday Party Uniform

I wanted to assemble a cute and easy holiday party uniform. This outfit is made up of things I already have in my closet (or very similar things). What's cuter than a sparkly mini and a cozy sweater? Plus, there's nothing worse than venturing out in the winter in a sleeveless top and feeling cold all night. I'm alllll for the movement towards sparkly sweaters. Just add a pair of tights to keep you extra warm on those cold December nights.

If your party doesn't warrant a sequined mini skirt, you could swap it out for a pair of cropped black pants or skinny jeans.

Have a great weekend!

Fashion Friday: Office Party Edition

Dress to Impress

Well I'm back home once again. I have to get prepped for this weekend, because it's my office Christmas Party. I haven't decided what to wear yet, so I turned to polyvore.com for some inspiration.

Just as everyone in your office has their own day to day style, the same goes for the holiday party. That being said, there are a couple things to keep in mind when deciding what to wear.

Style: Judge the style based on the formality of the party. Is it a simple get together at someone's house? or is it a big dinner/dance? (Mine is the latter). I'd say it's always better to be a bit over dressed than under-dressed, so err on the side of caution.

Length: Leave those mini's at home, unless it's the perfect dress. If going for a shorter number, keep the top conservative. A good example above is the Alice + Olivia red rose dress.

Top: If you're going strapless, make sure it fits well so there are no surprises (if you know what I mean) and keep it longer in length.

I'll try to snap a shot of myself tomorrow night to show you what I ended up choosing!

xx E.

Ps. another quick tip for the office party - take it easy on the drinks to avoid being 'that guy/girl' :)

Fashion Friday

When I saw (on Instagram) that one of my friends had scored some cute new mustache smoking slippers, I had to post about them. It's only fitting that for the beginning of Movember, I show my respects and appreciation for the mustache.

Fashion Friday

Thank goodness it's finally Friday. I've been sick most of the week, so I didn't have a ton of motivation for a Fashion Friday post. I'm surprised I was able even get dressed for work this week. Luckily, I'm really diggin' grey sweatshirts this fall, not only are they cute, but even when you're sick, you can still feel comfy rocking them.
Here are a few of my favourites...
Style-a-Sweatshirt

On days that you're feeling good, you could pair it with a button-down, skinnies and some cute sneakers.

xx E.

Ps. Although I may have styled them nicely here, this week, I'm wearing my sweatshirt with baggy grey sweatpants. Cute. Reeeeal cute.

Fashion Friday

Today is the official last day of summer. Sigh. But since it's been quite cool all week, I feel like I've already said a quick good bye to summer!

In honor of the first day of fall tomorrow, I want to highlight my favourite fall neutral, which is anything but plain...Animal Print.

Animal Print Neutrals

In my opinion, the key is to keep it classy, by a) using it in smaller doses or b) sticking to one animal printed item per ensemble. For those brave wearers, you can mix it with other patterns. Make the animal print your neutral. After all, according to one of my favourite fashion bloggers, Cheeta is the New Black.

I picked up those brown Dolce Vita zebra striped slippers last weekend and I'm already obsessed.

Happy Friday and Happy Fall!

Fashion Friday

Well I'm back from Atlanta. Since I was travelling for work, it inspired today's Fashion Friday topic: Business Travel.

We all like to be comfy on the plane, but when you're travelling for work, grey track pants and sneakers don't usually cut it, since you're often going straight from the airport to a meeting.

Here are my top picks for flying comfortably, yet still looking like you are employed.

Business Travel

  • Black trousers always look polished, and if you choose a pair with stretch then you'll be comfortable
  • Don't underestimate the power of a good quality t-shirt - they're soft and comfy but look crisp
  • Choose your cardigan wisely - it can double as a jacket (above right) or can be loose enough to wrap around you on a cool flight
  • If you can't forego the jacket entirely, pick one that goes with everything so you won't need to bring more than one
  • Flats/loafers are easy to slip off (I never wear my shoes on a plane), easy to walk miles through the airport in, and look great
  • Go for minimal accessories - a great watch and a statement briefcase will cover it (nothing worse than trying to rest with giant earrings piercing into your neck so leave those at home)
  • You'll notice I stuck to a black & white scheme - it always looks pulled together (and takes zero effort) :)

Ps. SO very happy to be home - I can never sleep in a hotel...can anyone??
