I've always had a thing for blue. This season, I feel like I wear navy several times a week. It's such a pretty twist on basic black and I think it flatters every one. I have navy skirts, a navy suit,a navy dress and navy sweaters. All that's left for me to grab is some shoes. It's such a classic colour and I can't get enough of it.
a collection of everyday things that i find lovely (and sometimes things that are not-so-lovely)

Fashion Friday: Fall Wish List
I'm a pretty frugal girl. I love to shop, but I don't go crazy each new season. I fill my closet with basics and then add to it each season. Here are the pieces I'm planning to add to my closet this season:
+ Plaid trousers
+ Black Skinny Jeans
+ Extra Thick Scarf (cross the red plaid with the size of the mustard one, and I'm sold)
+ Grey Beanie
+ Block-Heeled Boots (I like the versatility of the black ones above)
Have a fun fall weekend!

Are Mullets Back In Town?
According to sources (a quick look at Vogue's October cover or recent Marc Jacobs ads), it seems as though mullets are back in style. They have resurfaced on their own timeline (not part of the '80s fashion revival of the last few seasons). Some people will probably be really glad they're in style again (because believe it or not, I still know people who sport the original 1980's version).
Let's talk about some of the best mullets out there. There happen to be more than one type. You've got the punk rocker (spiky on top, long at the back). The crew cut/mullet. The skullet (bald on top, party still happening in the back). Some celebs have mullets named after them (the Michael Bolton, anyone?) It's the one hairstyle that continues to get attention from just about everyone.
Do you remember the episode of Full House when uncle Jesse broke his arms, and the girls tried to help by doing his hair, and accidentally ruined his mullet. Consequently, he ended up with a much more appealing hair cut. Nonetheless, he was devastated. There's just something about a mullet that people can't seem to let go of.
So whether you're still rockin' the Billy Ray Cyrus, or you've reinvented the mullet into a trendy, fashion-forward hairstyle (which I will call the mini-mullet), wear it with pride. At the very least, it gives those of us without mullets something to smile about.

Fashion Friday: Overnight Flight
Since I'll be flying to England overnight next week, I thought I would round up some essentials for night-time flights. The thing is, you get on your flight at bed time, and arrive in the morning. So as much as you want to wear your pj's on the flight it's best to wear something that can be as comfy as pj's but looks cute enough to wear the next day.
I always make sure the shoes I'm wearing are easy to take on and off (for security, but mainly because I don't like wearing shoes on a flight) and that I have a scarf that can double as a blanket. Add in a big carry-on stashed with things to read and a pair of sunglasses to hide tired eyes, and you're all set.

Fashion Friday: Summer Uniform
I have been living in this outfit this summer. I'm sure my friends are sick of seeing it, but I'll tell you what, I'm not sick of wearing it. There's nothing like denim on denim for a Canadian summer. I made my cutoffs out of some old jeans years ago and now they're perfectly worn in. Finish it off with a pop of red and some bright, woven friendship bracelets and you're good to go! You can find these items here.
Cheers to a great summer weekend!

Fashion Friday: Currently Loving
Spring (shopping) fever has hit me. Of course, when I allow myself to really go shopping and spend money, I never find what I'm looking for. I did manage to find some floral pants, as evidenced by last weekend. Plus, I already have some strappy heels, but there's always room for more :)

Fashion Friday: Wellies Round-up
In honour of all this rain we've been having I decided to pull together a group of wellies styled in ways that I enjoy, for your Friday reading pleasure.
I've been known to say that wellies don't suit every occasion, which I stand by, but there are many great ways to wear them and look both stylish and appropriate.
Have a great weekend and stay dry my friends!

Fashion Friday: Return of the Sneaker Wedge
Last year, I took a stand against sneaker wedges. I figured it was a quickly passing trend, and yet, it’s still here. Abundantly so, in fact.
I just can’t get on board with these shoes. They are so aesthetically unappealing to me. I know, they’re everywhere. Every fashion blogger has a pair, they've been captured on runways and they are a staple of street style. Both sports shoe companies and high end designers alike have added at least one sneaker wedge to their portfolio. But I don’t care. Mark my words, I will never, not ever, been seen in these shoes.
If I am going to wear sneakers, they will look like this. The point of wearing sneakers is because they're casual, cool, and flat.
I think my biggest hang up with sneaker wedges is that they remind me too much of these, scary looking things. Running shoes + heels = yiiiiiikes.
I have a feeling that some years down the line, we’ll look at them and cringe. Well, I won't, because I won't have worn them :)
Ps. If you own/like/love those shoes, knock yourself out, they're just not my style.

Fashion Friday: Emerson Fry's Spring Line
Even though it's still snowing (at least where I live) and cold outide, Spring fashion is everywhere and making me so very excited.
This week, I got the official email. Emerson Fry's Spring collection is ready for the taking (erm...buying).
Here are a few of the items on my wishlist.
If you follow me on Pinterest, then you've probably seen all of these and more pinned to my Spring/Summer board. Clearly I have a bit of a black & white thing happening here, but I promise they have some beautiful colours, too. You can see/shop the rest of the collection here.

Heart Love
I bet not many people have a favourite shape, but I do. It's the heart. It's been my favourite shape for as long as I can remember. Maybe it was those home made heart shaped valentines that I used to make with my babysitter. Whatever caused my love affair with hearts, there's no cure. If it has a heart on it, I want it.
Once, for Halloween at work, I jumped at the chance to dress as Valentine's day (we were all dressing up as the Statutory Holidays)...until I realized that it's not technically a Stat holiday. Darn it.
I put together a collection of love-ly heart themed items, just in time for Valentine's day! I would just love to snuggle up in one of those sweaters.

Fashion Friday
You know what I've been into lately? Big earrings. But not like big hoops, or long dangley ones, just big studs.

I'm calling them Grandma's earrings (because mine would have definitely worn them). The ones at the top, with the faces are my favourite.
What do you think? Too old-lady?
xx E.
Ps. Here's my collection so far (tiered tea-party tray from my lovely sister-in-law)

Fashion Friday: Holiday Party Uniform
I wanted to assemble a cute and easy holiday party uniform. This outfit is made up of things I already have in my closet (or very similar things). What's cuter than a sparkly mini and a cozy sweater? Plus, there's nothing worse than venturing out in the winter in a sleeveless top and feeling cold all night. I'm alllll for the movement towards sparkly sweaters. Just add a pair of tights to keep you extra warm on those cold December nights.
If your party doesn't warrant a sequined mini skirt, you could swap it out for a pair of cropped black pants or skinny jeans.
Have a great weekend!
xx E.

Fashion Friday: Office Party Edition
Well I'm back home once again. I have to get prepped for this weekend, because it's my office Christmas Party. I haven't decided what to wear yet, so I turned to polyvore.com for some inspiration.
Just as everyone in your office has their own day to day style, the same goes for the holiday party. That being said, there are a couple things to keep in mind when deciding what to wear.
Style: Judge the style based on the formality of the party. Is it a simple get together at someone's house? or is it a big dinner/dance? (Mine is the latter). I'd say it's always better to be a bit over dressed than under-dressed, so err on the side of caution.
Length: Leave those mini's at home, unless it's the perfect dress. If going for a shorter number, keep the top conservative. A good example above is the Alice + Olivia red rose dress.
Top: If you're going strapless, make sure it fits well so there are no surprises (if you know what I mean) and keep it longer in length.
I'll try to snap a shot of myself tomorrow night to show you what I ended up choosing!
xx E.
Ps. another quick tip for the office party - take it easy on the drinks to avoid being 'that guy/girl' :)

Fashion Friday
Thank goodness it's finally Friday. I've been sick most of the week, so I didn't have a ton of motivation for a Fashion Friday post. I'm surprised I was able even get dressed for work this week. Luckily, I'm really diggin' grey sweatshirts this fall, not only are they cute, but even when you're sick, you can still feel comfy rocking them.
Here are a few of my favourites...
On days that you're feeling good, you could pair it with a button-down, skinnies and some cute sneakers.
xx E.
Ps. Although I may have styled them nicely here, this week, I'm wearing my sweatshirt with baggy grey sweatpants. Cute. Reeeeal cute.
