Gold-Dotted Wall

I've been wanting to do one wall in the nursery with gold dots. As soon as I found this picture, I was totally inspired. I ordered vinyl decals from Etsy and I was just hanging onto them, thinking it was going to be a difficult task. So I enlisted the help of my friend and it turned out to be super easy.

The look I was going for was random/whimsical (I wasn't looking for a perfectly spaced polka-dot wall). So we started in one corner and just started sticking. Then we moved towards the middle of the wall, and filled in the space we left behind.

My lovely assistant

Result!

I'm so thrilled with how it turned out, and I even have more dots leftover (in case we move the crib, I can fill in the space left behind). I would definitely suggest having someone help - a second set of eyes (and hands) makes a difference. Thanks for helping, Brett! xo

Baby-Moon

As a Christmas gift, Nick's parents got us a gift certificate to Ontario's Finest Inns, so that we could have a little getaway. We booked the Charles Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake. NOTL is becoming a special place for us, since we went there right after we got married, and now right before the baby. The Inn is charming; every room is different and the style reminded me of an estate you might find in Georgia.

We arrived and walked around town for a little while. We had made reservations for afternoon tea at the Inn, so we headed back there. It was absolutely delicious. Afternoon tea is one of our favourite treats, although, somehow against the laws of nature, the Englishman opted for coffee instead of tea :)

The spread: smoked salmon, turkey, and chicken salad sandwiches, grapes, Canadian cheddar, fig chutney, chocolate pate, jam, clotted cream, scones. You know, a light snack.

I've been craving scones with cream and jam for weeks (Nick ate the raisins that I picked out).

Our room was lovely; cozy with modern touches. We had a huge balcony and a view of the golf course. It was perfect. Even these little critters were waiting for us.

We took time to walk through the golf course, and came across a historical landmark. We also gained some good karma by finding someone's lost iphone and returning it to her.

Telling the baby all about Fort Mississauga.

We went for a late dinner in town, and then headed back to the Inn to wind down. We took advantage of the 24 hour hot chocolate/coffee/tea on demand (just saying, I'd love that in real life).

Of course, upon finding out that the Liverpool soccer game was going to be on first thing Sunday morning, we knew we couldn't miss it. At home, we don't have a tv in our room, so watching tv in bed is a treat. We ordered coffee to our room and lounged all morning.

We made sure to take another walk through town. Most shops were closed which made it nice and quiet; I haven't seen NOTL so quiet. It was beautiful and we had the best time.

Happy Friday

Happy Friday my friends. I'm glad to see the end of the week, but luckily this week has been full of things that have made me happy.

Grapefruit - right now I can't get enough! All it took was one craving and my friend to (miraculously) produce some slices out of her purse and I haven't been able to stop eating it since.

The birthday that keeps on going - cards and parcels that arrived this week made me feel very grateful.

Spring is here! Walking the dog never felt so good. Even with rain, I'm still so glad to feel a warm breeze, it's completely uplifting.

Thanks for all the love and support with the latest bump post!

We bought a crib this week (thanks to my lovely parents-in-law!) and I'm excited to set it up this weekend. I promise to share some nursery photos soon. Other things happening this weekend: showering two lovely ladies in my life. One with a baby on the way, one about to walk down the isle. Add in a family dinner on Sunday and I'm one happy girl.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy Bump Day

Along with the latest bump shot, I thought I might share a little conversation I had the other day while running errands.

The scene:
I'm shopping for painting supplies at the Dollarama so that Nick and I can paint the nursery, so I'm in a pretty good mood.

Cashier: Are you due soon?
Me: In June.
Cashier: Oh wow <pauses> You're...you're...bigger. I don't know how to say that nicely.
Me: <caught off guard> well...June 2nd...so just a couple months away.
The cashier just gives me a sympathetic look and wishes me good luck.
I left the store clutching my coat closed, feeling very judged.

The moral? I don't care if the expectant mother's baby bump is the shape of a rocket ship. Keep your comments to yourself, please and thanks.

Ps. I'm fine now and love my bump. Judgey lady can't ruin this for me :)

A Monday Pick-Me-Up Tune

How was the weekend? Mine was great but I'm continuously forgetting to snap photos so my 'weekend bits' posts are few and far between these days. Sorry for the radio silence last week, too - crazy work week with very early mornings makes blogging difficult (if you're me). This week should be a little more normal. So let's get the week started, shall we?

I've never been a huge fan of Hedley, so you can imagine my surprise when I found out that this song is by them. It's such a sunshine-y, come-on-summer tune that it makes me sing and dance in the car every time I hear it.

Hopefully it will bring some fun to your Monday!
